As per the Education Act, students may only have one place of residence. In circumstances where a student may live with more than one parent, only one of those addresses can be used as the student’s residence (primary address). The address that is on record with the school as the student’s residence is the one that will be used to determine eligibility for transportation.
FMCSD recognizes there are situations where students may use more than one address, such as: 1) they live with more than one parent or 2) they regularly attend school from an alternate caregiver's address due to the parent's work schedule. Families with shared custody situations or an alternate caregiver address may complete this form to apply for transportation from these secondary addresses. To be considered for bussing from a secondary residence:
- The secondary address must meet the eligibility requirements. That is the address must be within the catchment area for the child's designated school and within the transportation boundary for the child's said school
- In the case of shared custody, parents must determine which address is the primary address (student’s place of residence) and which is the primary residence. This will be the same address for transportation as it is in Edsembli.
- In an alternate caregiver situation, the home address will always be the primary residence
- There is a consistent schedule for when the child will be riding from the primary residence and when they will be riding from the alternate address. A schedule must be provided xx days in advance showing which days the child will be using which address.
- The alternate address is required more than a few days in the school month or year. We are unable to provide transportation from a second or other location for one-off or occasional days for safety reasons.
Families can only apply for one alternate location in addition to their home address. Only 2 addresses maximum can be accommodated for school bus transportation. Please complete the form below to continue your application for transportation from a second and/or alternate address.
